wreckage

and with that,
it’s over.

no more begging for air
as the concrete sinks deeper,
a passenger in tow.

no more pleading with the tide
as the shoreline passes,
forgetting my name.

my body,
a wreckage of its own,
waiting to be found
under the weight of the world.

the ceiling was caving
but the cries were unheard,
only carnage following.

an effort was made,
and that can never be disputed.
